How to Hang Anything on the Wall
TVs, art, mirrors — don’t hang them too high.
Most people hang things too high. It’s one of the most common design mistakes out there. Designers know to guide you toward average eye level, not the tallest or shortest person in the house.
And yes — extreme heights get screwed here. It is what it is.
Here’s the simple version:
Rule #1: Art Belongs at Eye Level
Aim for the center of the art to sit around 57″–60″ from the floor.
This keeps the piece grounded and connected to the room instead of floating in space.
Rule #2: TVs Should Be Lower Than You Think
Mount the TV so the center lines up with your seated eye level — usually around 42″–48″.
If you’re tilting your head up, it’s too high.
Rule #3: Mirrors Follow the Same Rule
Same height as art: center at 57″–60″.
If it’s over furniture, leave 4″–8″ of space between the mirror and the top of the furniture.
Rule #4: Groupings Act as One Piece
If you’re hanging multiple frames, treat the whole set like one big piece and center that at the same 57″–60″ range.
Final Thought: Lower Feels Better
If you’re debating between too high or too low, choose lower.
Average eye level creates comfort, balance, and a more designed look — every time.
